My cycle to work this morning

without comments

This was my route to work this morning:

I used Google’s http://mytracks.appspot.com/ app for my new android based HTC Hero. I’m pretty impressed with the results and it was easy to clean the initial mess caused by the poor GPS reception in my flat using google maps. I left the rest of the journey un-modified … it’s quite amusing to see how much the taller buildings disrupt the GPS signal!

Change is afoot. Probably.

Well I’ve not posted here since May I think its about time I started again. In case you care I’ve not changed electricity providers yet, but it is now on one of several todo lists.

Quite what will happen here next I’m not sure, but I hope I’ll more motivated to write stuff here.

Right, I’m off to make a new todo list …

New Glasses!

without comments

The heading says it all. I now have a new pair of glasses for “VDU work” as the optician told me. I bought them from Vision Express near Monument tube in London.

For someone who has never had their eyes tested or worn glasses before I found the service to be a little lacking. I wasn’t really put at ease, and I found the atmosphere (including the bad dance music playing in the store) more like that of a gym than somewhere that trained specialists measure the defects with my vision. Individual staff members were polite but didn’t actually give the impression that they had sold a pair of glasses before (perhaps the fact that I work in the city but don’t wear a suit unsettled them ;-) )

Having spent over £200 pounds on them I’m reasonably happy with the results. I’m wearing them now, as I type and am finding things fairly normal. I’m keen to see how I feel about them by the end of the day, that was when the symptoms that drove me to the opticians used to occur the most.

Tip: If you find yourself making the fonts bigger in your web browser in order to read articles on a regular basis go get an eye test! I took me a few years to make the connection!)

Update: I guess I should have mentioned what is wrong with my eyes! I have an Astigmatism
